FAQ's

We are currently offering free membership in December/January. From February, our introductory offer gives a 20%-25% reduction on our subscriptions until June.

Currently, it is not essential. However, we strongly encourage everyone on our site to get an Enhanced DBS. It will boost your credibility, your page will receive more traffic and it will give the prospective parents peace of mind. We have joined forces with UCheck who will process your Enhanced DBS Claim quickly and efficiently (you can use other providers). When it is returned to you, tell us the DBS number and once verified, you will receive a Regulated stamp and be upgraded to the Regulated part of the website. Did you know? An Enhanced DBS lasts for life. So although there is a one-off fee attached to getting one, in the bigger picture, the boosting of your listing may mean you receive more clients which will, in an hour or two of tutoring, offset that initial cost.

If you're unsure of your DBS number or whether you're registered for the UK Government's DBS Update Service, here’s how you can go about finding it: 1. Check With Your Employer If your DBS check was conducted through your current or previous employer, they might have a record of it. Contact your HR department or manager to inquire. 2. Locate Your DBS Certificate If you have your physical DBS certificate, the number you need is on the top-right corner of the certificate. 3. Contact the DBS Update Service If you’re enrolled in the DBS Update Service but don’t know your details: Log in to the Update Service using the email address and password you used to register. If you’ve forgotten your login details, use the Forgotten your password? link on their website to reset it. 4. Apply for a New DBS Certificate If you can’t locate your certificate or confirm registration in the Update Service, you may need to apply for a new DBS check. This can be done through your employer, a professional body, or an umbrella organization authorized to process DBS checks. 5. Contact DBS Customer Services If you’re still unsure, you can contact the DBS directly for guidance: Phone: 03000 200 190 Email: customerservices@dbs.gov.uk Be prepared to provide some personal information for verification. To be part of the Update Service, you must have registered for it within 30 days of your DBS certificate being issued. If you didn’t register in time, a new check is required to join.

As the name A Teacher 2 Tutor suggests, our primary target audience is teachers. You do not need to provide any teaching documentation but if you decide to, it will add credibility to your account, improve traffic to your page and provide parents with additional peace of mind. Did you know… our second most popular filter is searching by ‘Teacher’? If you consent, we would like you to send us some evidence to view.

No, do not worry. This is not intrusive in anyway. As teachers, we know that we do not want certain people (our Headteacher for example) finding out about our after-school activities; we get it! To acquire the Teacher stamp and filter upgrade, we do require some kind of evidence though as that is what will set your page apart from the rest. Simply send us either - A photo of your degree certificate A photo of your QTS certificate. If you cannot provide either of these, drop us an email. There may be another way we can help. Once we receive the documents, please allow a short amount of time for us to view the document. Once viewed, we will make the decision whether to award the Teacher stamp. We will delete any photos you send us, so the data is not stored with us.

Here at A Teacher 2 Tutor, we offer a directory of qualified teachers and subject specialists. You simply pay a small fee to be visible on the website. There is only one fee per month (taken on the 1st of each month), whether you tutor for one hour or a hundred. The current fee is set at £14.90 a month. To put it into perspective, if you charged £40 an hour, you would earn that back within the first 22 and a half minutes of your first session. Everything else you earn that month, is solely for you. You can get even better value by selecting the 6 months subscription option.

We ask clients to get in touch (via phone call or email) with any potential matches. When this happens, we recommend discussing things on the phone initially or replying to the email that was sent. If after the initial contact both parties are still interested, then a follow-up email, call or meeting in person is recommended to sort the specifics. When all sorted, start tutoring! Within the first month, we ask teachers to not charge for any cancelled sessions as this is the clients settling in/cooling off period. After the month, follow what you agreed during your initial discussion.

Most of these will naturally come up when you email, phone or meet in person with your tutor. But here’s a few key questions to get you started. How, When and Where? How often do you want tuition? Is it term-time only? Where will tuition take place and let them know your availability? Background Find out about the person who wants tuition? What are their strengths and interests? Equally what are their barriers to learning? Payment Clarify how (cash, bank transfer) and when (start of the session, end of the month) you wish to be paid and set out your cancellation charges which will come into effect one month after the date of your first session. Don’t forget to sell yourself!

At AT2T, we link the clients to the teachers. When the link has been made, we back off leaving you to sort out the particulars. Regarding payment, most teachers prefer cash or bank transfer, please let the client know how and when you wish to be paid. Also clarify whether sessions are term-time only or not. You are responsible for sorting your own tax.

You are responsible for recording your own tax but it is not as scary as it sounds, honestly! Simply keep a record of your sessions including the amount charged (for example in a basic Excel document or on your phone). If you earn over £1,000, you need to send this information via the government website (please check the latest rules regarding this as they often change). If you wish, you can use a third party (for example, Intuit, Quickbooks) who offer services to do this cheaply and efficiently for you. It does not take long.

If in the first month (cooling off period for our clients), we ask all teacher to be flexible and appreciate that there may be short-notice cancellations. During this time, please do not charge your clients. Anytime after a month from the date of your first session, we advise the client gives you at least one week’s notice. Within this week, we recommend that these sessions are chargeable and attended, but you have chance to waive this if you decide. Please be understanding of extenuating circumstances.

Yes. It is very simple. Go to your edit page and you can toggle your availability button on and off. When you have availability, your page will be live; when you show no availability’, your page is invisible to the public (which is ideal if you don’t want to fend off phone calls and emails constantly). If you wish to permanently remove yourself from the website, this is easy to do and your payment will stop within 5 working days. If the next month starts within those 5 days, you may still be charged. It is worth noting that if you permanently cancel your page, you lose everything. When you have space available again you will need to start from scratch. The process of signing up is simple and straightforward but things still take a small amount of time, your end and ours. Any statistics displayed on your page e.g. x years on site, tutored x amount of students, review scores (feature coming soon), etc will be lost and will be unretrievable. If a person does this repeatedly in a short amount of time, we will have to charge an admin fee to that person, as it takes time to set people/payments up and check documentation and DBS numbers.

Not currently. We are considering introducing another tier to the website soon. Keep your eyes peeled and let us know if this would interest you.

Ok, this is a tricky one. As per our T&Cs, we do not get involved with any disputes regarding money. Our primary role is to link the teacher to the client and then step back. To avoid any misunderstandings, we always ask this to be very clear in the initial meetings and if needed write up an agreement. We always recommend asking clients to pay before the session, whether it be cash in hand every time they open the door or bank transfer in advance of the session. In an ideal world, asking for the whole month in advance is preferable but this is often unpopular with clients. We advise you to not let the clients pay at the end of the month as this is problematic if they then suddenly stop paying. If paying after each session, we would recommend getting any owed money before you start the next session to avoid building any debt. Unsure of what to do next? Visit out ‘How It Works’ tab at the top of the page.
